APAC (11TH) NI-CR STAINLESS STEEL INDUSTRY CONFERENCE 2026
In 2026, the nickel chain shifts from oversupply to a long-term tight balance constrained by resources and power, widening volatility. Supply-side: Indonesia’s RKAB quota tightening and new HPM policy raise ore costs, while aluminium production strains power, reversing cost/supply trends. Nickel prices rose stepwise in H1 on strong fundamentals and cost support. Downstream stainless steel rebounded, driven by China’s anti-involution policies and Indonesian raw-material shortage expectations. Mills expanded scrap substitution to offset cost inversion, but remain constrained by scrap tax compliance and falling NPI grades; restocking demand boosts high-grade nickel, worsening structural raw-material imbalances. Global markets face intersecting risks from mining policy, energy, and demand. Q4 is key for production, procurement, and hedging plans.
SMM will hold the 2026 SMM APAC Stainless Steel Conference in Shanghai from November 17-18, 2026, bringing together global nickel, chromium, and stainless steel stakeholders to discuss policies, price trends, substitution, and medium/long-term supply-demand, breaking down information barriers and supporting operational decisions.
